Furnari Fund for Breast Cancer Prostheses
Our mission: To assist breast cancer survivors to acquire the appropriate prostheses. |
| There is nothing
more devastating than facing a diagnosis of breast cancer and the treatment that will
follow. Women facing this will typically undergo a mastectomy, followed by chemotherapy
and radiation. Mastectomies, of course, are disfiguring and disheartening and while some
women are candidates for breast reconstruction surgery, over half will opt to acquire
breast prostheses. The cost for these prostheses can add up to a considerable expense. The typical patient needs to acquire a brassiere at an average cost of $50.00 each along with the prostheses itself, which has an average cost of $275.00 per form. Thus, the total outlay after a breast mastectomy can be as high as $425.00 and $700.00 for a double mastectomy for bras and breast forms that will last about two years before replacements are needed. For an active woman the cost is increased by the need for an additional breast form for athletic purposes. An excellent source of additional information is at Imaginis Corporation This is where the Furnari Fund can help. We recognize that even with insurance reimbursement some of these costs will be out of pocket and, of course, many women do not have insurance or are underinsured. The Furnari Fund is a non-profit organization that subsidizes the costs associated with acquiring and maintaining breast prostheses and related items used by women who have undergone a mastectomy. Our sole mission is to assist breast cancer survivors to acquire the appropriate prostheses. We work through a network of breast prostheses providers in the Northern Virginia area who assist us in identifying individuals who need financial assistance. For more details about these providers, please contact us at info@furnarifund.org. The Furnari Fund accepts contributions from individuals, companies, and other organizations for this purpose. The Furnari Fund is a component fund of the Northern Virginia Community Foundation which is a 501 (c) 3 organization meaning that all contributions are fully tax deductible to the extent provided by law. The Furnari Fund is run entirely by volunteers so virtually every penny of your contribution can go to those who need it. Approximately 98% of all funds received are used to meet the needs of breast cancer survivors. We welcome your contribution! Please print a copy of the Contribution form and send it with your check to the address shown on the form. Thank you!
